Pedagogical practices in foreign language teaching have undergone a significant paradigm shift in recent decades at the UZSWLU, moving towards more communicative, learner-centered approaches thanks to the Presidential Decrees on promoting ELT and the British Council PRESETT project that was adopted and implemented in all the universities responsible for the training of English language teachers since 2013. The project activities include further scale-up of the language teaching program nationwide; trainer and teacher training in key areas of the reform, including assessment and material development; project external evaluation; policy dialogue events to bring together project stakeholders and international partners to shape the strategy for further enhancement of the quality culture in English teacher education. Based on these changes, the key pedagogical practices fostering critical thinking and creating an engaging, inclusive learning environment, including communicative approaches, task-based learning, content-based instruction, collaborative learning, technology integration and learner-centered design, are implemented in the UzSWLU.
