Department History: The Uzbekistan State University of World Languages (UzSWLU) is one of the leading educational institutions in Uzbekistan, specializing in the training of experts in Chinese language.
Chinese language has been taught at UzSWLU since 1990. Initially, a group for training specialists in Chinese was opened at the Russian Language Faculty. From 1991 onwards, Chinese was taught as a second language to students of the faculties of "Translation Theory and Practice" and "English Philology." To date, nearly 300 students are studying Chinese as a second language.
Following the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and the People's Republic of China, there was a significant increase in demand for specialists in Chinese language. In May 2008, by the decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (PQ-868), it was decided to focus on training students in Chinese as a primary direction, and on April 1, 2010, the Department of Chinese Philology was established. In 2014, the Department of Chinese Philology was officially founded, and today it operates under the Faculty of Eastern Philology.
Department Staff: Currently, the department has 31 faculty members, 16 of whom are full-time staff. Among them, 4 are Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences (PhD), 5 are independent researchers, 2 are doctoral candidates, and 13 are foreign faculty members.

Currently, more than 60 of our students are studying in the People's Republic of China on grants from the Chinese government, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and Chinese universities.
A special mention should be made of the practical assistance provided by the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Uzbekistan. The Embassy actively supports Chinese language education in Uzbekistan by regularly organizing events aimed at promoting Chinese language learning and motivating students. For example, students of the Chinese language group participate annually in the international "Chinese Bridge" competition held in Beijing and achieve impressive results.

Every year, the "Chinese Bridge" international student competition is held, and students of the Chinese language direction have consistently secured prestigious positions in the national stage of this competition. For instance, on May 18-19 of this year, the national stage of the "Chinese Bridge-23" international student competition was held at the MIA Cultural Palace in Tashkent city.
