History of the Department:

           Department of English Applied Subjects 1 is among the departments that have been functioning for years at Uzbek State World Languages University. The Department was established in 1995 as a part of the English Philology Faculty 1 under the name “English Language Lexis” and the honored teacher Dilyara Israilovna Gaziyeva, who had been teaching English to students at the university for several years, was appointed as the Head of the Department. At that time 11 highly qualified senior teachers were working at the Department, namely, B. Khonkhojayev, U. Rakhmonberdiyeva, M. Abralova, D. Jaffarova, G. Muhamedrahimova, N. Slobodkina, S. Soy, B. Kulmatov, A. Mirsaidov, G. Mullabbabayeva and D. Gaziyeva.

          Due to changes in the conformation of the university, the title of the Department changed several times. The Department has been functioning under the conduction of several people during its activity. In particular, associate professor A.G. Maksumov worked as the Head of the Department between 2005 and 2007. M.A. Kadirova was assigned as the Head of the Department in 2008 and worked successfully till 2009. From 2009 till 2011, the Department was led by Ph.D., associate professor N. Sabirova. A. Yuldashev started heading the department in 2011 and consigned the duty to N. Ibragimov in 2015. From 2018 to 2023, Kh. Avilova functioned as the Head of the Department. Since 2023, September 16, I.Minnikulov has been functioning as the head of the department.

The main aim of the Department:

        The main aim of the Department is to train prominent specialists who meet the requirements of the age and correspond to world standards within the framework of ensuring the superior tasks of the Law “On Education” and other normative documents.

The main duties of the Department are as follows:

  • conducting lectures, practical and other types of lessons at a high theoretical, scientific, methodological and professional level specified in the curricula prepared in accordance with the state educational standards of Higher Education;
  • guiding students’ independent works and graduation qualification works;
  • fairly assessing students’ knowledge based on the rating system;
  • creating conditions for combining students’ theoretical knowledge and skills with practice;
  • developing and submitting study programs for departmental subjects for approval, as well as discussing study programs prepared by other related departments;
  •  writing textbooks, educational, methodological and demonstration manuals as well as discussing other textbooks, educational manuals, educational and methodological literature for publishing;
  • taking part in the preparation of essential educational and methodical literature according to the orders of non-state educational institutions;
  • working with talented students, assisting them in the preparation for science olympiads and competitions, conduction of scientific research and improving the forms and methods of independent study;
  • creating facilities for faculty members of the Department to carry out their research work;
  • discussing completed scientific research works and recommending next stages;
  •  ensuring the integration of education, science and production;
  •  reviewing and approving personal plans of professors and teachers of the department for educational, teaching-methodical, scientific-research, spiritual-educational and organizational work;
  • studying, summarizing and disseminating work experiences of experienced professors and teachers, mastering new pedagogical and information technologies and applying them to the teaching process.
  • to ensure the implementation of the KPI criteria for determining the target indicators of the department's development for the academic year and the rating of professors and teachers

                                       Scientific potential of the department

24 professors work in the department. Among them, 1 person is a doctor of philosophy (PhD) in philological sciences, associate professor. The number of senior teachers is 5. The number of teachers is 14, 4 professors-teachers are trainee teachers. In addition, there are 2 doctoral students and 1 external substitute teacher. Among them, 1 teacher has a PhD degree.

 

Scientific directions of the Department:

      The planned scientific-research works in the Department of English Applied Subjects 1 are being carried out in the following priority areas:

1. Theory and Methodology of education and training;

2. Comparative literary studies, Comparative linguistics, Translation studies.

3. Languages ​​and literature of the peoples of Europe, America and Australia

 

          All professors and teachers of the Department and independent researchers are involved in scientific research work. Each member of the Department is conducting scientific research based on the individually assigned topics. Scientific research works and the gained results are discussed at the Department meetings every month. Department members publish articles and theses in Republican scientific journals along with attending scientific and practical conferences.

Achievements of the Department:

          The Department holds a student scientific-practical conference under the leadership of professors and teachers every year. The materials of the conference are published in the “Light of knowledge” collection of the department. Besides, teachers regularly publish theses, scientific articles, brochures, textbooks and training manuals.

           Currently, the department cooperates with the university of “1 Decembriye 1918 University of Alba Iulia” in Romania. A cooperation agreement for the academic years 2016-2021 and 2022-2027 was signed with this university. Within the framework of cooperation, professor Valentin Todesku of this university, Rector of the university professor Valer Daniel Breaz visited our university. They conducted lectures and trainings for students and teachers using European teaching experience. In the framework of cooperation, inter-university cooperation agreements were signed on future steps.

    The teachers of the Department have been training their skills in several foreign countries. In particular, senior teacher N. Khodjayeva and teachers M.Abdugadirova, Sh. Akbarova have excelled their skills in the “Indian Technical Economical Cooperation” program announced by the Indian Embassy. In addition, Sh.Turgunova, Sh.Yuldasheva and M.Rakhmonova improved their professional skills at the NILE Institute in Norwich, Great Britain, and Kh.Avilova at the London Metropolitan University in 3-week special training courses in November and December 2013. In 2017, the teacher of the department G. Jorayev at Nile Institute of Great Britain, D. Rskhulova and A. Orishev in 2018-2019 gained knowledge and experience in MA TESOL program at Aston University of Great Britain and F.Zaripov in 2022-2023 gained knowledge and experience in MA TESOL program at Reading University of Great Britain. Based on the order №21/3S of the University rector U.Azizov "On sending to foreign universities for training" on April 11,  2022 within the "Teachers Continuous Professional Development" program, a teacher of the department H.Suvanova successfully completed 4-week English Language Teaching /Tesol Methodology training course from May 30 to June 25, 2022 at the University of Portsmouth, UK, and received a corresponding certificate. During the visit, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Uzbekistan State World Languages University and the University of Portsmouth. Alimova Gulnazkhan, senior teacher of the department, participated in TESOL Arabia 2024 International Conference with her scientific article and presented her speech in Dubai, UAE in April ,2024. Also, according to the decree of the Rector of the Uzbekistan State World Languages University of No. 166 dated August 10, 2024, Shamuratova Dilnoza returned from a two-week training in Finland's Juvaskulya in October 2024 and  exchanged experience in pre-school and school education, professional and higher educational institutions.
