The First English Faculty
Faculty History:
In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan I. Karimov dated December 10, 2012, No. 1875, "On measures to further improve the system of foreign language learning" and the Resolution dated May 23, 2013, No. 1971, "On measures to improve the activities of the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages," the First and Second Departments of English Philology were established, and based on these, the First, Second, and Third English Language Faculties were created. Currently, the faculty has 4 specialized departments and 2 non-specialized departments, with over 174 professors and teachers.

Guli Ismoilovna Ergasheva was born in 1980 in the Namangan region. She is the Dean of the First Faculty of English at the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor. In the framework of the United Nations Development Program for 2017-2019, she worked as a national consultant on gender terminology in the project “Expanding Women’s Rights and Opportunities in Public Administration and Enhancing Their Socio-political Activity.” She is a member of the American Association of Applied Linguistics (having participated in conferences in 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023). She received her candidate of sciences degree in 2011 and a Doctor of Sciences degree in 2018. She is the Director of the Research Institute of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics. From 2022 to 2023, she was the leader of the working group for the QS and Times Higher Education World University Rankings, during which the university was included in the "THE Impact Rankings." She is a member of the Scientific Council of the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages. She was awarded the Grand Prix in the national competition "Woman of the Year 2022." She has been leading the "Experimental Phonetics" scientific and practical laboratory. She has been awarded the medal "30th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan" and the "Shuhrat" medal.

Faculty Achievements:
On March 14 of this year, the Department of Practical English Linguistics №1 and the Department of Integrated English Course №1 jointly organized a Republican Scientific and Practical Conference on the topic "Methodological Foundations of Language and Language Education Research."
The Navruz holiday, which embodies the ancient values and noble aspirations of our people, was celebrated at the faculty with a series of events. On March 18, a festive event was held, showcasing the traditional dishes and customs of the Samarkand region. The participation of students was actively ensured during the festival.

Internship Opportunities:
Faculty members have been enhancing their qualifications in several foreign countries. For example, senior lecturer Khodjaeva Nafisa and lecturers Abdukodirova Maksuda and Akbarova Shahnoza completed qualification enhancement programs in the “Indian Technical Economical Cooperation” program. In addition, in November and December of 2013, faculty members Sh. Turgunova, Sh. Yuldasheva, and M. Rahmonova completed specialized qualification courses in Norwich at the NILE Institute, while X. Avilova attended a 3-week special program at London Metropolitan University.
Additionally, the faculty's professors and lecturers are engaged in collaborations with the British Council, the U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan, and the MGLU.
Our faculty members have participated in and carried out five foreign projects under the Tempus, Erasmus+, and British Council programs. Within these projects, eight faculty members and three graduate students studied and exchanged experience at Aston University (UK), Freiburg University of Education (Germany), and Caen University (France). Currently, faculty members are implementing a project under the British Council program titled “English as a school subject: learning effective practices from low level primary English language teachers.”
In 2023, our faculty member Zaripov Feruz completed his studies at the prestigious "University of Reading" in the UK through the “El Yurt Umidi” Fund and resumed his work at our faculty.
On November 9, 2024, a meeting took place at the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages with Guljamal Maxmudova, Head of the Department of International Relations and Academic Mobility at the Peoples' Friendship University of Kazakhstan, named after academician A. Quatbekov.
During the meeting, issues such as the enhancement of faculty qualifications, organization of internship programs, academic mobility programs, and the participation of university representatives in international conferences were discussed, based on the cooperation agreement signed with the Peoples' Friendship University.
In the third quarter of 2024, Dilnoza Jamalovna Shomuratova and Oygul Hasanovna Tuxtakulova returned after enhancing their qualifications in preschool, school, and higher education institutions in the city of Jyvaskyla, Finland.
