Department History:
The department started its work in August 2021. There are 17 faculty members at the department, including 1 Doctor of Philology (DSc), Professor, 2 PhD, Associate Professors, 4 Senior Lecturers, and 10 Lecturers.

Main Goals and Objectives of the Department:

The Department of Practical Spanish Languages is a structural unit of the Faculty of Roman-Germanic Philology of the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages (UZSWLU). The department was established based on the protocol of the university’s council meeting from May 27, 2021 (Protocol No. 10) and the decision of the University’s Board of Trustees from July 7, 2021.

The main tasks of the department include:

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate students various courses such as "Reading and Writing Practice," "Oral Speech Practice," "Practical Phonetics and Grammar," "Introduction to Roman-Germanic Philology," "Regional Studies and Tourism," "Press Language," "Cultural Studies," "Intercultural Communication," "Communicative Lexicon," "Artistic Reading," "Second Foreign Language," and others.

  • Developing and approving curricula, textbooks, and teaching materials, as well as improving educational quality.

  • Guiding scientific research and organizing students' independent work and research projects.

  • Organizing events for the professional development of faculty members and conducting scientific-methodological seminars.

Main Areas of Activity:

  1. Preparing highly qualified specialists who meet the high moral and ethical standards of developed democratic countries.

  2. Regularly analyzing and improving educational standards, curricula, and programs in comparison with advanced foreign educational systems.

  3. Developing and presenting educational programs for approval, as well as reviewing programs developed by related departments.

  4. Preparing textbooks, educational, methodological, and visual materials to ensure the quality of education.

  5. Organizing students' internship practices, independent work, and scientific research activities.

  6. Implementing a credit-module system for student knowledge assessment and organizing extracurricular activities.

  7. Identifying and mentoring talented students, preparing them for participation in olympiads, competitions, and various academic programs.

  8. Organizing the scientific and creative activities of students, involving them in research, and creating the necessary conditions for their academic success.

  9. Conducting research in line with the approved plans, discussing the results, and implementing them into educational practices.

  10. Supporting faculty in professional development and disseminating advanced teaching experiences.

1st Year: "Reading and Writing Practice," "Oral Speech Practice," "Practical Phonetics and Grammar," "Introduction to Roman-Germanic Philology."

2nd Year: "Reading and Writing Practice," "Oral Speech Practice," "Regional Studies and Tourism," "Press Language," "Cultural Studies," "Intercultural Communication," "Communicative Lexicon," "Artistic Reading," "Second Foreign Language."

Scientific Research of the Department:

Although the department was established recently, all faculty members are actively involved in scientific research. In 2024, two faculty members defended their PhD dissertations, and one participated in a scientific seminar. Plans for further improving the scientific potential of the department have been developed. Additionally, faculty members regularly participate in various scientific seminars and training programs to enhance their academic qualifications.

Achievements of the Department:

  • Since 2020, based on the memorandum between UZSWLU and the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UAEMex), free online courses have been organized for students in line with the "Concept of Development of Higher Education in the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030" established by the Presidential Decree PF-5847 of October 8, 2019.

  • In the 2021-2022 academic year, two faculty members, N. Makhmudova and S. Akhadyov, taught at the University of Cordoba (Spain).

  • In May 2022, the department organized an international scientific-practical conference on the "Current Issues of Roman-Germanic Philology" in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Languages of the Academy of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

  • In 2022, the head of the department, D. Baxronova, defended her doctoral dissertation on "Linguocognitive Categorization of World Perception in Uzbek and Spanish Languages" and received the degree of Doctor of Philological Sciences (DSc).

  • In the 2022-2023 academic year, the department invited Professor Virna Velázquez Vilchis from Mexico’s National Autonomous University (UNAM) to conduct professional development courses for faculty members.

  • In 2023, Professor D. Baxronova participated as a keynote speaker at an international symposium in Mexico and conducted lectures at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and the National Autonomous University of Mexico State (UAEMex).

  • In 2023, the department organized an international scientific-practical conference on "Multilingualism and Intercultural Communication: Experience and Challenges," approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.

  • In the 2023-2025 academic years, three students from the department participated in the Erasmus+ program at the University of Castilla-La Mancha and returned with valuable experience.

  • Professor D. Baxronova was awarded first place for her contribution to SCOPUS-indexed publications and enhancing the university's global ranking.
