An Event Dedicated to World Greek Language Day Held at Uzbekistan State World Languages University

On February 9, 2026, an educational and cultural event dedicated to World Greek Language Day was held at Uzbekistan State World Languages University.

The event was attended by Her Excellency Ms. Paraskevi Tzevelek, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to Uzbekistan; Ms. Rubini Angelakopulu, Head of the Embassy Administration; Ambassador’s assistants Ms. Anastasia Xaltzidi and Mr. Rinat Hasanov; as well as the Rector of USWLU, Mr. Ilkhomjon Tukhtasinov; Vice-Rector for International Cooperation A. Nasirov; Head of the International Cooperation Department Kh. Yuldashev; Dean of the Faculty of English No. 3 I. Haydarov; Greek language instructors and students.

 

 

The event was officially opened by Rector Ilkhomjon Tukhtasinov, who highlighted the significance of World Greek Language Day, the historical roots of educational and cultural ties between Uzbekistan and Greece, and the effective cooperation currently established in the field of higher education. The Rector emphasized the university’s readiness to further expand joint educational projects, faculty exchange programs, and international opportunities for students.

This was followed by a speech from Her Excellency Ambassador Paraskevi Tzevelek, who noted the growing interest in studying the Greek language and culture and highly appreciated the cooperation with Uzbekistan State World Languages University.

During the event, a quiz about Greece was held, video presentations reflecting the Greek language and the country’s history were shown, and a presentation on the history of the Greek language and its role in the modern world was delivered. Students recited poems dedicated to the Greek language and performed a traditional national dance.

At the conclusion of the event, the quiz winners were awarded. Greek national dishes and desserts were served to the participants, and the event concluded in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
