ERKINJON TURDIMOV APPOINTED FIRST DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER — MINISTER OF EDUCATION AND SCIENCE

By a decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Erkinjon Oqbutayevich Turdimov has been appointed First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan — Minister of Education and Science. In connection with this appointment, he has been relieved of his position as Governor of Syrdarya Region.

Earlier, the candidacy of E. Turdimov had been approved by deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.

The relevant decree also introduced the position of First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan — Minister of Education and Science into the executive structure of the Cabinet of Ministers. A Secretariat for Education, Science and Healthcare has also been established.

The First Deputy Prime Minister — Minister of Education and Science is authorized, within the scope of his powers, to provide overall leadership and coordination of the activities of heads of republican executive authorities — ministries, committees, agencies and inspectorates — as well as the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the governors of the regions and Tashkent city, in carrying out their assigned responsibilities and functions in the fields of education, science and healthcare.

Responsibility for organizing implementation and overseeing the fulfilment of tasks in these areas has been assigned to S. Sh. Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
