DELEGATION FROM KANGWON NATIONAL UNIVERSITY VISITS UZSWLU

Today, October 5, a delegation from Kangwon National University of the Republic of Korea visited Uzbekistan State World Languages University.

The meeting was attended by UzSWLU Rector Ilkhomjon Tukhtasinov, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation A. Nasirov, Head of the Department for Coordination of Joint Educational Programs F. Rashidova, Leading Specialist of the International Cooperation Department D. Khodjabekova, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Philology D. Djuraev, and Head of the Department of Korean Philology M. Absalomov. Kangwon National University was represented by Vice-Rector for International Cooperation Yi Hyun Kim, Executive Director Lee Min Hee, and Director of the International Cooperation Department Yun Ji-Yang.

 

 

At the beginning of the meeting, UzSWLU Rector Ilkhomjon Tukhtasinov warmly welcomed the guests and provided information about the university’s activities, academic programs, and achievements in recent years. He also spoke about the teaching of the Korean language at the university, the faculty members working in this field, and cooperation established with leading higher education institutions of the Republic of Korea.

As noted, Korean has been taught at UzSWLU as a second language since 1995 and as a primary foreign language since 2017. Currently, more than 1,000 students are studying Korean in specialized groups. A total of 32 Korean language specialists, including 8 specialists from the Republic of Korea, are involved in teaching.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of 3+3 and 2+2 joint educational programs, the launch of a franchise-based transnational education program, and the establishment of a King Sejong Institute and a Korean Education Center.

 

 

Particular attention was paid to participation in the conference scheduled to be held at Kangwon National University on November 10–13, 2026, signing a memorandum on cooperation in the field of franchise-based education, exchanges of faculty members and students, academic mobility, and the development of joint research.

The parties agreed to expand cooperation beyond Korean language and Korean studies to such areas as translation studies and simultaneous interpretation, artificial intelligence and language technologies, e-learning, joint academic conferences and seminars, student academic mobility, and cultural projects.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants exchanged views on taking cooperation between UzSWLU and Kangwon National University to a new level and implementing mutually beneficial projects in education and research.
