On November 5, 2026, Rector of Uzbekistan State World Languages University (UzSWLU) Ilkhomjon Tukhtasinov held a meeting with a delegation of representatives from the Gyeonggido Provincial Office of Education of the Republic of Korea.

At the beginning of the meeting, the guests were shown a video presentation highlighting the university's activities in recent years, academic programmes, international cooperation, and achievements.

During the meeting, information was provided on the current state of Korean language teaching at the university. In particular, it was noted that Korean has been taught as a second foreign language since 1995 and has been included among the university's major foreign languages since 2017. Currently, more than 1,000 students are studying Korean. It was also highlighted that Korean language classes are delivered by 32 specialists, including 8 experts from the Republic of Korea.

The parties also discussed cooperation with a number of leading Korean higher education institutions, student academic exchange programmes, and projects implemented in collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). In particular, it was reported that the “Korean Education and Culture Centre” had been established through a KOICA grant of USD 1,116,000 allocated for 2025–2026. The centre provides opportunities to study the Korean language and culture, while extracurricular clubs in K-pop, taekwondo, and other areas have also been established.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed the joint implementation of Korean language education programmes for local students and citizens of Korean descent, as well as the integration of educational content from the Gyeonggi Korean Language School (KLS) into the university's curriculum.

Proposals were also put forward to attract graduates of schools and higher education institutions in Gyeonggido Province to the university's bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programmes, enhance the professional qualifications of foreign language teachers, and develop international relations in the field of education.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties expressed their interest in expanding cooperation in Korean language education, academic exchange, and joint educational programmes. They also agreed to identify promising areas for future collaboration.
