Department of French language applied sciences
The Decree No. PQ-1971 dated May 23, 2013, by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On improving the activities of the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages" and the Resolution No. 222 of the Cabinet of Ministers dated August 13, 2013, set forth tasks for the improvement of the university's activities, which led to the merger of the French, German, and Spanish philology faculties, and the establishment of the Faculty of Romance and Germanic Philology. Within this faculty, the departments of German Language Theory and Practice, French Language Theory and Practice, and Spanish Language Theory and Practice began their work.
Educational Activities: Since September 2021, in line with the new structure of the university, the Department of French Language Practice was created separately, and first- and second-year undergraduate students were assigned to this department.
Currently, the Department of French Language Practice has 13 professors and teachers. One of them is a professor specifically invited from France.

Organization of the Educational Process: Each teacher prepares thoroughly for their subjects, conducts lessons using modern methods, makes efficient use of televisions and projectors in the classroom, prepares necessary handouts for students, and aims to involve students in independent work to develop the four language competencies using modern methods.
From the 2022-2023 academic year, based on the proposal of teachers who upgraded their qualifications at the University of Cergy Paris, a new course, "Mediation," was introduced. During the teaching of this course, classes were held in museums, exhibitions, theaters, and libraries of Tashkent, with the goal of enhancing students' French-speaking skills and further developing the comparative study of the customs and cultures of Uzbekistan and France.
Scientific Research Activities: The head of the department, Senior Teacher Zulfiya Davronova, is conducting research in the field of "Sociological Analysis of the Evolution of Uzbek-French Socio-Cultural Relations" under the specialization 22.00.06 – Sociology of Education and Culture.
Senior Teacher Dilafruz O’tamurodova is conducting research for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Philology on "Linguo-pragmatic and Linguo-cultural Features of Dialogues in Contemporary French" under the supervision of the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages.
Senior Teacher Fakhriddin Badalov is preparing a thesis on "Linguo-cultural Features of Phraseological Units Describing Humans (in French and Uzbek)" under the specialization 10.00.06 – Comparative Literature, Contrastive Linguistics, and Translation Studies.
The department also holds scientific and practical seminars where specialists from the Alliance Française in Tashkent and French language specialists from schools in the Chilonzor and Uchtepa districts give lectures, seminars, and master classes.
Scientific Articles and Abstracts Published: The department's teachers regularly publish their articles in international and local scientific journals and present their research at international and national scientific conferences.
On April 7, 2022, the head of the department, Z. Davronova, participated in an international conference at the Moscow State Linguistic University on "Authentic Dialogue Between Russia and the Francophone World in the Space of Culture, Language, and Literature," where she presented a report on "Artistic and Stylistic Features of Patrick Modiano's Works" and received a 36-hour advanced training diploma.
Work with Talented Students: The department's students regularly win prizes in the Republic Science Olympiad in French language and literature. Talented students are prepared for the national science Olympiad according to the guidelines established by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Several talented students have published research articles in foreign countries, and one of the department's most distinguished students, Nargiza Khallilayeva, is preparing for the Navoiy State Scholarship and has published approximately 305 scientific articles in international journals and 2 articles in local academic journals.
Achievements of the Department's Faculty and Students: Faculty members and students have won several international competitions, including the Molière Award in various categories at the Frankophone Theater and Song Festivals held annually in cooperation with the French Embassy in Uzbekistan, the UN, OTV, and the Youth Theater of Uzbekistan.
International Cooperation: Since 2016, the department has been collaborating with the University of Cergy Paris under the Erasmus+ international project, as well as with Accent Français institutions in Montpellier, France. In 2022, six specialists from Cergy Paris University conducted seminars for teachers and students of the department on the methodology of teaching French.
In July 2024, teachers from the department underwent professional development in Bordeaux, France, at the BELC-2024 Summer School, and in December 2024, they visited Lyon-2 University for a business trip.
Cultural and Educational Activities: To enhance the students' interest in art, including theater, painting, music, and other fields, first- and second-year students actively participate in various competitions organized in collaboration with the Alliance Française de Tashkent, as well as faculty and university-level events. These activities aim to promote the social and political engagement of female students and support their well-being, as part of the Presidential decree on the systematic support of families and women.
