History of the Department: The Department of the Uzbek Language of the UzSUWL takes its history as the Department of the Uzbek Language and Literature from 1960, when the Tashkent Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages was founded in 1949 in Tashkent. In 1992, as a result of the merger of two universities - the Tashkent State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages and the Republican Pedagogical Institute of the Russian Language and Literature, the Uzbek State University of World Languages was founded.

In 1993, the Department of "Comparative Grammar" under the guidance of Associate Professor, Ph.D. S. Soliev, "Uzbek language and literature" under the direction of Z. Solieva and "Uzbek language" under the direction of Associate Professor A. Mamatov united in the department of the Uzbek language.

In accordance with the letter of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 87-04-2665 dated November 21, 2019, the Department of the Uzbek Language was renamed the Department of the Uzbek Language and Literature.

Over the years, the department was headed by well-known philologists and methodologists in the republic: from 1993 to 2001, the head of the department was A. Mamatov - associate professor, Ph.D., from 2001 to 2012 - Kh. Mukhitdinova - professor, Ph.D., from 2012 to 2015 N. Zhiyanova - Ph.D., associate professor. Currently, the department is headed by a doctor of philosophy in pedagogical sciences, associate professor Z. Salisheva.

Currently, the department employs 20 people. Of these, 18 are in the main staff: 7 associate professors, candidates of science, 5 senior teachers, 6 trainees and 2 part-time teachers.

The main goal of the department is to train highly educated, qualified specialists who are in demand on the labor market, able to work at a highly professional level, meeting the requirements of the time and corresponding to world standards, within the framework of ensuring the priority tasks of the Law on Education and the National Personnel Training Program.

The department sets itself the following tasks:

* teaching disciplines assigned to the department at all faculties in the amount established by the relevant State educational standards, curricula and training course programs.

* fair and transparent assessment of the knowledge of students studying on a credit-modular system;

* creating conditions for the integration of the educational process with best practices, the latest research and development;

* development of training and work programs, syllabuses and calendar plans for the disciplines assigned to the department and submission for approval in the prescribed manner, as well as discussion of curricula prepared by related departments;

* preparation of textbooks, teaching aids and discussion of other textbooks, teaching aids and educational literature to be published;

* participation in the preparation of the necessary educational and methodological literature on orders from non-state educational institutions;

* work with gifted students, preparing them for olympiads, various competitions, conducting scientific research and improving the forms and methods of self-education;

* creation of conditions for conducting research work by professors-teachers of the department;

* creation of conditions for conducting research work by the faculty of the department;

* discussion and recommendation of completed studies for subsequent stages;

* ensuring the integration of education, science and production;

* consideration and approval of individual plans of the faculty of the department for educational, educational, methodological, research, spiritual and educational and organizational work;

* study, generalization and dissemination of the pedagogical experience of the leading specialists of the department, the development of new pedagogical and information technologies and their implementation in the educational process.

Scientific direction of the department:

Planned research work at the Department of the Uzbek language is carried out in such areas as theoretical issues of modern Uzbek linguistics, neurolinguistics, methods of teaching the Uzbek language and literature in national and Russian-speaking groups, questions of lexicography and terminology.

The faculty of the department is actively engaged in scientific activities. Research work and the achieved results are discussed monthly at the meetings of the department.

Achievements of the department:

In 2019-2022 teachers of the department: N. Zhiyanova, A. Muminova, S. Maksumova, Y. Avlakulov, Z. Salisheva were awarded the academic title of associate professor.

In 2021, the senior teacher of the department M. Sharipova defended her dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in philological sciences on the topic “Poetic Features of Devan Shaibani” and received a Ph.D. degree in philological sciences.

Centers of the Uzbek language were opened at Moscow State Linguistic University, the Institute of Asian and African Countries at Moscow State University, at the Southern Federal University in Rostov-on-Don, and the department provides methodological support in teaching the Uzbek language.

Associate Professor of the Department Karaeva B. (from 2010 to the present) teaches the Uzbek language to students of political science at the Institute of International Relations and Social and Political Sciences of MSLU.

Associate Professor of the Department Z. Salisheva and Senior Lecturer Z. Usmonova took part in the opening of the Uzbek-Russian Center for Education, Language and Culture at the Southern Federal University in Rostov-on-Don. They held lectures, open classes, master classes on the Uzbek language and literature, Uzbek culture and art.

Since 2019, the department has been the organizer of the republican scientific and practical conference dedicated to the Day of the Uzbek language on the topic “Modern trends in the study and teaching of the Uzbek language as a state and foreign language”) and collections of scientific works of teachers “Independence and language” and students “Creativity and research” are published ".

In 2021, Associate Professor of the Department Z. Salisheva became a member of the jury of the republican competition of scientific and creative works "The best method of teaching the Uzbek language".

Since 2022, the department has acted as the organizer of the project “The whole mahalla is talking about this” to test literacy in the Uzbek language (“Total Dictation”).

Intern teachers Nazarov K., Nasriddinova O., Abdunazarov O., Eshankulov D. are enrolled as independent applicants.

The dissertation of B. Karaeva for the degree of Doctor of Science (DSc) on the topic “Theory and Practice of Forming a Culture of Speech in Teaching Uzbek as a Second Foreign Language”, as well as the dissertation of M. Fozilova for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Pedagogical Sciences on the topic "Methods of formation of literary and speech competencies in the lessons of literature" (on the examry Institute of the Ministry of Defense of ICT and Communications under the code "Erudite".

Teachers of the department take part in international conferences held in Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Russia, Turkey.

The teachers of the department published 7 textbooks (for students of higher educational institutions of the republic and abroad), 4 teaching aids. The textbook "Uzbek language" was also published jointly with the Beijing Institute of Foreign Languages.

In 2022, the department published 2 monographs (Associate Professor Ya.Avlakulov; Associate Professor B.Karaeva). Currently, in co-authorship (Professor of UzNU Kh. Boltabaev, Associate Professor of the Department M. Sharipova), “Divan Shaibani” is being prepared for publication.

The teachers of the department publish the results of their research in the largest scientific periodicals, as well as in Scopus and Web of Science.

Under the scientific guidance of Ya. I. Avlakulov, students of the Russian-speaking groups of the university annually take pride of place in the republican Olympiad in the Uzbek language. In 2019, Muhammad Khan Yusupov was awarded a diploma of the III degree, and in 2020 Munojat Orifjonova was awarded a diploma of the III degree.

Associate professors Ya.Avlakulov, Z.Salisheva and senior lecturer Z.Usmonova took part in the project "Creation of multimedia products for intensive teaching of the Uzbek language for speakers of a foreign language" and took 1st place in the nomination "Best software products and developments" in the Republican competition of scientific and creative works “Mother tongue is the pride of the nation”, held by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan among higher educational institutions.

Associate professors of the department give expert opinions, reviews of dissertations, textbooks and teaching aids in native and foreign languages.
