January 24 is International Education Day. The commemoration was established by a resolution of the UN General Assembly on 3 December 2018, supported by 58 member states. The document notes that education plays a key role in creating sustainable societies and contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. The right to education is enshrined in Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of human rights. It supports free primary education. The 1989 Convention on the rights of the child contains a law on the obligation to ensure that higher education granted in states is open to all.
International Education Day has an important educational function. This helps to draw attention to a serious problem that every fifth child around the world does not have access to education. According to UNESCO, currently 262 million children and young people are out of school; 617 million children and adolescents lack basic reading and mathematics skills; less than 40% of girls in Sub-Saharan Africa have completed primary secondary education, and about four million refugee children and young people have no access to schooling.
On January 24, 2024, on the occasion of International Education Day, in cooperation with professors and teachers of the Department of World Literature at the information resource center of the Uzbek State University of World Languages, "How to read books correctly?"was organized.
The event featured a presentation of fiction and scientific literature presented by the Union of writers of the Republic of Uzbekistan. He was appointed head of the Department of world literature, professor G.Hallieva revealed. Also professor of the Department F.Sapaeva, senior lecturer D.Rasulmuhammedova, teacher M.Giyosov spoke and told the student youth in detail about scientific and artistic works, their significance.
