An Important Meeting in Georgia: A New Stage of Cooperation Begins

An important meeting was held at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Youth of Georgia with the participation of the delegation of Uzbekistan State World Languages University. As part of the official visit, the delegation held talks with Ketevan Kokrashvili, Head of the Ministry’s Department of Science and Higher Education, as well as with officials responsible for higher education and international relations — Mariam Keburiya, Mariam Grigalashvili, and Nino Machurishvili.

During the meeting, the priority tasks identified by the Prime Ministers of the two countries were discussed. In particular, special attention was given to the establishment of a Georgian Language Center at Uzbekistan State World Languages University, the introduction of Georgian language teaching, and the implementation of exchange programs for professors and teachers, researchers, and students.

The parties also exchanged views on expanding scientific cooperation and developing joint projects in priority areas. Rector I. Tukhtasinov proposed attracting Georgian language specialists from Tbilisi State University and organizing the educational process on the basis of programs adapted to the local environment and a new generation of teaching materials.

In addition, the participants discussed the launch of exchange programs for doctoral and master’s students for the purpose of teaching Georgian and training local specialists, as well as providing them with grants and free accommodation.

The Georgian side expressed its readiness to support the establishment of the Georgian Language Center, equip it with modern teaching, methodological and country studies materials, as well as technical resources, and provide comprehensive support for the process of teaching Georgian at UzSWLU.

Another important initiative was also proposed during the meeting — the organization of hybrid-format summer and winter camps for 100 students of Georgian higher education institutions, including Uzbek language and culture. This initiative was met with great interest by the Georgian partners.

At the conclusion of the dialogue, the parties agreed to establish a working group to implement the proposed initiatives step by step and to develop a specific roadmap. Ketevan Kokrashvili also stated that she would take part in the meeting to be held at Tbilisi State University on April 3 and would outline specific directions regarding the teaching of the Georgian language.
