Another Major Project Focused on Student Sports Launched!
Today, on April 6, the official opening ceremony of the “New Uzbekistan Student Olympics” sports competitions was held at the Olympic and Paralympic Glory Museum in Tashkent.
This project is being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, and the National Olympic Committee.
The ceremony was attended by Odil Abdurakhmonov, a representative of the Presidential Administration; Adham Ikramov, Minister of Sports; Sardor Rajabov, First Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation; Otabek Umarov, First Deputy Chairman of the National Olympic Committee; as well as university rectors, representatives of sports federations, and the general public.
The Rector of Uzbekistan State World Languages University, Ilkhomjon Tukhtasinov, also took part in the event.
Speakers emphasized that promoting a healthy and well-rounded younger generation, developing mass sports, and encouraging a healthy lifestyle are among the key priorities.
The competitions will be monitored through the Ministry of Sports’ unified electronic management system “ERP-sport.”
So far:
• 168 higher education institutions have registered (92 public, 52 private, 24 foreign)
• more than 159,000 students have expressed their willingness to participate
The competitions will be held in three stages:
• Stage 1: April 6–20
• Stage 2: May 1–15
• Final: June 1–10 (Tashkent, Olympic Village)
The competitions will include the following sports: volleyball, handball, 3x3 basketball, table tennis, football, athletics, and swimming.
