Collaboration between UzSWLU and the University for Foreigners of Siena Reaches a New Stage

On June 18, 2025, Professor Liana Tronci, Vice-Rector of the prestigious University for Foreigners of Siena (Italy), paid an official visit to Uzbekistan State World Languages University (UzSWLU).

The main purpose of the visit was to expand cooperation between the two higher education institutions, particularly in the development of joint academic programs and research projects.

 

 

The guest was welcomed by Vice-Rector for International Relations A. Nosirov and Head of the Department of Italian Translation Theory and Practice B. Ergashova, who introduced her to the university facilities, including classrooms and the library.

Later, an official meeting was held with Rector Ilhomjon Tuxtasinov, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation O. Yusupov, and Vice-Rector for International Relations A. Nosirov. During the meeting, Rector Tuxtasinov provided detailed information about the university's activities, international projects, and research potential.

Professor Tronci thanked the university administration for the warm reception and effective cooperation and proposed a joint doctoral program. According to the agreement, the University for Foreigners of Siena will allocate six annual quotas for UzSWLU doctoral students in Linguistics and Translation Studies, with free accommodation provided during their stay in Italy.

The parties also agreed to implement joint academic programs at the bachelor’s and master’s levels.

 

 

The Erasmus+ K171 project cooperation between UzSWLU and Siena was specially acknowledged. So far, 5 students and 4 faculty members from UzSWLU have completed training at Siena. The project has been re-submitted for the 2026–2028 period.

After the meeting, the guests visited the Department of Italian Translation Theory and Practice and the Joint Programs Coordination Office. Head of the Office, Feruza Rashidova, gave a detailed overview of the departments’ work.

At the end of the visit, both sides agreed to continue their cooperation, conduct joint research, and expand international academic exchange programs.
