Cooperation with the Republic of Korea is developing

On October 3, 2025, a meeting was held with Mr. O-Bong Yang, President of Jeonbuk National University of the Republic of Korea, Ms. Hwarim Cho, Vice President for International Relations, and Mr. Kim, responsible for international affairs.

 

 

The meeting was attended by A. Nasirov, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of Uzbekistan State University of World Languages (UzSWLU), O. Yusupov, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation, Head of International Cooperation Department H. Yuldashev, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Philology D. Joraev, Head of the Korean Language Department S. Bobomurotova, and Korean language teacher I. Abdiyeva.

A. Nasirov provided detailed information about the activities of UzSWLU, its rankings, achievements in teaching Korean, and cooperation with Korean universities and the KOICA organization. A video about the university was also shown to the guests.

O. Yusupov spoke about the scientific research conducted at the university and the results achieved.

The President of Jeonbuk University expressed readiness to provide grants for one semester of study for 50 students from UzSWLU starting from March 2026. He also announced that the university will cover $350 of the $900 dormitory fee. Students are responsible for their airfare, visa, and personal expenses. There will also be opportunities for students to work after classes.

Additionally, Mr. Yang emphasized that he will consider providing grants for UzSWLU’s master’s and doctoral students.

 

 

Ms. Cho, Vice President of Jeonbuk National University, stated that students from UzSWLU with an IELTS score of 7.5–8 or TOPIK level 6 can study for free, and there are opportunities for doctoral studies in 12 specialties. She promised to send complete information about the grants. At A. Nasirov’s request, the issue of organizing professional development courses for teachers will also be considered.

For reference: Jeonbuk National University is among the TOP-10 national universities in Korea and ranks in the TOP-300 globally in fields such as medicine, veterinary science, pharmacology, engineering, astronautics, astronomy, and agriculture. The university has about 28,000 students and more than 2,500 faculty members. It also trains specialists in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, and other languages.

The university has 4 campuses with a total area of 300 hectares. It includes 15 colleges, 14 vocational and specialized schools, laboratories, and research centers. From 2023 to 2025, Jeonbuk University implemented scientific research projects worth 932.3 billion Korean won.

President Yang is the chairman of associations of Korean national universities as well as 40 leading medical and engineering universities. Jeonbuk University has signed agreements with major companies such as Samsung and Hyundai, not only in Korea but also abroad, to organize internships and job placements for students.
