International Event Dedicated to the “European Day of Languages” Held at UzSWLU
On September 30, an international event dedicated to the “European Day of Languages” was held at Uzbekistan State University of World Languages in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan and the British Council.

The event was attended by Renata Wrobel, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan; Michaela Zelenanska, Political Affairs Officer; Paraskevi Tzeveleki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to Uzbekistan; Guido De Sanctis, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic to Uzbekistan; Lubomir Frebort, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Uzbekistan; as well as representatives of the embassies of Switzerland, Estonia, France, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, and Spain.
The event was also attended by Michael Houlgate, Director of the British Council in Uzbekistan and Central Asia; Henrik Siegler, representative of the German Federal Foreign Office; Barbara Anna Bernsmeir, Director of the Goethe-Institut in Uzbekistan; Adrien Houguet, Cultural Affairs Representative of the French Embassy; education and cultural affairs officers from the embassies; and representatives of Alliance Française.
At the opening ceremony, Otabek Yusupov, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs and Innovation at Uzbekistan State University of World Languages, and representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan delivered speeches on the importance of foreign languages in developing interstate relations, intercultural dialogue, education, and international cooperation. Particular attention was paid to foreign language learning, multilingualism, expanding intercultural dialogue, and strengthening international ties in education.

The guests were also shown a short video presentation about the activities of Uzbekistan State University of World Languages, its achievements in recent years, its international standing, and its efforts to develop international cooperation.
The next part of the “European Day of Languages” featured parallel presentations dedicated to European languages and cultures, as well as a “Language and Culture Fair.” Participants had the opportunity to learn more about the languages, cultures, and traditions of European countries.
