On September 5, the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages hosted a meeting with 16 volunteer teachers within the framework of a project implemented in cooperation with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).
The event was attended by the newly appointed Deputy Director of KOICA’s Representative Office in Uzbekistan, Ms. Kim Cheon, as well as the project manager and responsible staff members.
During the meeting, UzSWLU Rector I. Tuxtasinov provided the guests with information about the university’s activities, Korean language education, and cooperation with Korean universities, including KOICA. He expressed gratitude for the organization’s support and wished the volunteers success.
In response, Ms. Kim Cheon thanked the university for the warm welcome and emphasized readiness to further develop mutually beneficial cooperation between the parties.
Following the meeting, the Faculty of Oriental Philology hosted the opening ceremony of the program with the participation of the volunteer teachers. Vice-Rector for International Cooperation A. Nasirov delivered a speech highlighting the volunteers’ important role in teaching Korean language and culture, expanding students’ knowledge and worldview, and strengthening friendly relations between the two countries.
It was also noted that the introductory Uzbek language and culture courses would allow the volunteers to become more familiar with the country’s rich cultural heritage, values, and traditions.
For reference: Based on the memorandum with KOICA, a project worth 1,116,000 USD is being implemented at UzSWLU to promote the teaching of Korean language and culture. Over three years, a total of 70 volunteer teachers from Korea are expected to participate. The volunteers will conduct Korean language classes, organize cultural events, and run extracurricular clubs such as taekwondo, dance, and music. So far, two groups comprising 22 people have completed their work and returned to Korea.
