Meeting with the Representative of the Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce

On September 4, 2025, the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages hosted a meeting with Marco Farchi, a member of the Italy–Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce Council

The event was attended by the university’s rector, Ilkhomjon Tukhtasinov, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation A. Nasirov, Head of the International Cooperation Department Kh. Yuldashev, and Head of the Department of Italian Translation Theory and Practice B. Ergasheva.

During the meeting, issues related to developing cooperation with Italian universities were widely discussed. In particular, Marco Farchi emphasized the need to accelerate the process of opening a CELI test center for the Italian language at UzSWLU, as well as organizing the preparation and certification of candidates sent to Italy through the Agency for External Labor Migration. He noted that he would hold negotiations on this matter with the leadership of Ca’Foscari University.

Furthermore, it was highlighted that opening a branch of Tushu University in Samarkand and establishing cooperation with Roma Tre University, which has over 20,000 students, would be mutually beneficial. The possibility of launching joint educational programs, especially offering opportunities for free master’s studies in Italy, was also underlined.

Rector Ilkhomjon Tukhtasinov stated that UzSWLU had already sent several proposals regarding joint educational programs to Italian universities, but no specific response had yet been received. In turn, Marco Farchi assured that he would personally deliver these proposals to the Italian side.

The parties also stressed their readiness to expand cooperation in all areas at the Italy–Uzbekistan Rectors’ Forum, scheduled to take place in Rome in February 2026.

Another key topic of discussion was the translation and publication of Marco Polo’s famous work Il Milione (“The Million”) into Uzbek and holding its presentation at UzSWLU. The event is expected to be attended by the Ambassador of Italy to Uzbekistan, the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, as well as Ca’Foscari University leaders. It was proposed to organize the presentation in the first half of October 2025.

The parties further discussed opportunities to implement new joint projects and initiatives in education, science, and culture between Italy and Uzbekistan.

This meeting plays an important role in strengthening academic and cultural ties between the two countries and providing students with opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of Italian culture and literary heritage.
