2026-09-18 12-48 MEMORANDUM OF COOPERATION SIGNED BETWEEN UZSWLU AND THE ECO CULTURAL INSTITUTE
On 17 September, Rector of Uzbekistan State University of World Languages Ilkhomjon Tukhtasinov received Muhammad Hassan, President of the Cultural Institute of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), and Ahmed Akalin, Assistant to the Director of the Institute.
At the beginning of the meeting, the guests were shown a video presentation about the activities of Uzbekistan State University of World Languages, its achievements in recent years, and its position at the international level. Information was also provided about the university’s results in international rankings, its cooperation with more than 200 leading higher education institutions in over 40 countries, its programmes for training specialists in fields beyond foreign languages, and its efforts to provide graduates with opportunities to acquire additional professions.
During the meeting, the participants exchanged views on the activities of the ECO Cultural Institute, particularly its efforts to promote the languages, literature and arts of ECO member states, study their shared historical and cultural heritage, and implement academic and creative projects. Muhammad Hassan noted that the Institute studies hundreds of languages and dialects of ECO member states and has been developing a relevant database. He also highlighted ongoing work to translate and publish literary and academic works in the languages of the member states.
The meeting also included information about plans to organize a Language Festival in Islamabad in 2027. In turn, Rector Ilkhomjon Tukhtasinov proposed holding the next festival event at UzSWLU, as well as organizing summer schools in Uzbekistan for students from higher education institutions of ECO member states. Within the framework of the summer schools, participants would have the opportunity to become more closely acquainted with Uzbekistan’s rich cultural heritage, historic cities and places of interest. These initiatives were supported by the President of the Institute.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to further expand cooperation in the areas of education, language, literature, culture and research. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Uzbekistan State University of World Languages and the ECO Cultural Institute.
For reference: The Economic Cooperation Organization was established in 1985 by Türkiye, Iran and Pakistan. In 1992, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan joined the organization, expanding its membership. Today, the ECO brings together 10 member states.
