On April 8, the fifth meeting of the Scientific Council, awarding academic degrees DSc.03/30.12.2019.Fil.27.01, was held at Uzbekistan State World Languages University.
During the meeting, the PhD dissertation of Djalilova Umida Tulqinovna, titled "National-Cultural Features of the Language of the Works of Abdulla Qahhor and Somerset Maugham: Original and Translation," in the specialty 10.00.06 – Comparative Literature, Comparative Linguistics, and Translation Studies, was discussed.
This scientific research thoroughly explored the linguocultural aspects of the works of Uzbek and English literary figures – Abdulla Qahhor and Somerset Maugham, the national spirit, aesthetic thinking, and the degree of expression of national-cultural indicators in their works and translations. The dissertation attracted attention due to its relevance, scientific approach, and practical significance.
The defense process was attended by the rector of Uzbekistan State World Languages University, Professor Ilkhomjon Tuxtasinov, as well as official opponents, distinguished scholars, scientific supervisors, doctoral candidates, and representatives of the broader public.
The participants of the event exchanged detailed opinions on the theoretical foundations of the research, the comparative analysis of the selected texts, and the approaches to translation. The dissertation's topic knowledge, academic level, and the candidate’s ability to conduct independent research were highly praised.
