Representatives of Sunchon National University at UzSWLU
On August 19, 2025, representatives of Sunchon National University of the Republic of Korea – Dean of the Office of International Affairs and Education, Mr. Seo Kangsok, and Coordinator Ms. Lee Subin – visited Uzbekistan State World Languages University (UzSWLU).
The guests were welcomed by UzSWLU Rector I.M. Tukhtasinov, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation A. Nasirov, Head of the International Relations Department Kh. Yuldashev, Dean of the Faculty of Eastern Philology D. Djurayev, and Korean language instructor and translator U. Uroqov.
During the meeting, a number of important topics were discussed, including:

academic exchange of students, faculty, and PhD researchers;

professional development of Korean language and journalism instructors in Sunchon;

attracting specialists in Korean and other foreign languages as well as international journalism to UzSWLU;

organizing summer schools for students.
Special attention was given to the implementation of joint bachelor’s degree programs in a 2+2 format with Sunchon National University. According to the program, students will study 2 years at UzSWLU and 2 years in Korea. Tuition fees will be set by UzSWLU. A key point under consideration is whether the study in Korea will be tuition-free or if students will pay their tuition fees to UzSWLU.
The Korean side positively responded to Rector Tukhtasinov’s proposal to launch a joint master’s degree program in a 1+1 format. Both parties agreed to develop and coordinate fields of study, curricula, and academic programs, aiming to launch them starting from the 2026/2027 academic year.
Background:
Founded in 1935, Sunchon National University ranked 17th among 182 universities in Korea in 2000. Today, it is ranked among the top 1000 universities in Asia. The university has approximately 26,000 students and, as a classical university, offers over 100 academic programs, including 91 master’s, 25 integrated master’s and PhD, and 35 PhD programs.
