On September 10, Uzbekistan State World Languages University held an online meeting with Fabiano Burkhard, Head of the Science, Technology and Innovation Sector of the Embassy of Brazil.

The meeting was attended by UzSWLU Rector Ilkhomjon Tuxtasinov, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation A. Nasirov, Head of the International Cooperation Department H. Yuldashev, Dean of the Faculty of Romance-Germanic Philology H. Hakimov, Head of the Department of Spanish Language, Professor D. The parties discussed new areas of collaboration, implementation of joint educational and scientific projects, and the establishment of academic exchange programs for faculty and students. In particular, they emphasized the consistent introduction of Portuguese language teaching at UzSWLU, development of modern textbooks, and strengthening its role in the education system. Future cooperation also includes joint scientific conferences, seminars, and cultural and sports events.

For the first time in Uzbekistan, Portuguese language teaching is being institutionalized, which will significantly strengthen cultural, scientific, and educational ties between Uzbekistan and Brazil.

It should be noted that within the framework of preparations for the 43rd session of UNESCO’s General Conference to be held in Uzbekistan, an UzSWLU delegation led by Rector Ilkhomjon Tuxtasinov visited Brazil and Argentina. During the trip, Uzbekistan’s culture was promoted, and several cooperation agreements with leading universities were signed. Today’s meeting is a vivid example of the practical results of these agreements.

Background: Portuguese is spoken by over 260 million people, is the official language of 8 countries, and one of the official languages of major organizations such as the European Union. Introducing Portuguese language education in Uzbekistan opens new opportunities for youth in diplomacy, economics, international law, culture, and tourism, enhancing their global competitiveness.
