UzSWLU Student at a Leading Brazilian University: A Significant Step Towards Training Local Portuguese Language Specialists

Another important initiative of Uzbekistan State University of World Languages in the field of international cooperation is yielding practical results. Jasmina Kamalova Shuxrat qizi, a third-year student majoring in Portuguese, is studying at one of Brazil’s leading universities — Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp) — as part of an academic exchange programme supported by a university grant.

This achievement goes beyond providing a single student with an opportunity to study abroad. Jasmina’s studies in Brazil represent an important practical step towards developing Portuguese language education in Uzbekistan, training local specialists with international experience, and further advancing this field.

Studying at Unicamp gives Jasmina the opportunity to learn Portuguese directly in a native-language environment, gain insight into modern teaching methodologies and academic communication, and become closely acquainted with Brazilian culture. This experience will be highly valuable for her future professional teaching of Portuguese and for conducting academic research in Uzbekistan.

On August 14, 2026, Unicamp published an article on its official website entitled “Universidade recebe número recorde de estudantes internacionais” (“University Receives a Record Number of International Students”). According to the article, 201 international students registered at the university for the second semester of 2026, of whom 188 confirmed their enrolment. A year earlier, the figure was 123 students. The new students represent 26 countries.

In the article, Rafael Dias, Director of Unicamp’s Executive Directorate for International Relations (DERI), highlighted the expansion of international cooperation, stating: “Temos até um aluno do Usbequistão” — “We even have a student from Uzbekistan.” The fact that this student is a representative of UzSWLU is a particularly positive and proud moment for our university.

The support of the Rector of UzSWLU and the International Cooperation Department, as well as the initiatives and cooperation of Professor Dilrabo Baxronova and Brazilian Professor Simone Hashiguti, have played an important role in this achievement, particularly in developing Portuguese language education and strengthening ties with Brazilian higher education institutions.

Today, a student studying in Brazil on a Unicamp grant may become tomorrow a specialist, translator, educator, or researcher contributing to the development of Portuguese language education in Uzbekistan.

This is a practical result of academic cooperation between UzSWLU and Brazilian universities and an important step towards the development of the Portuguese language.
