On April 17, at the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages, a roundtable was held on the topic “Terminology and Translation” with the participation of Ms. Nizamova I., a lecturer from the Department of Practical English Disciplines 3, and first-year students of the same faculty.

Outcomes of the roundtable: Translation is a specific form of communication—interlingual communication. The goal of translation is to render a source language text into a target language text.

Participants were informed about the translation of terms from various academic fields and the importance of consistent usage. Examples were used to demonstrate how terminological errors affect translation quality.

There was a discussion on how to find suitable equivalents for newly emerging Uzbek terms, including adopting or directly using them. Terminology refers both to the study of terms and the set of terms used in a specific field. Terminological issues have always been a relevant topic in linguistics.

At the end of the session, students asked questions. Common translation mistakes, working with synonyms, and the importance of context were discussed.
