Representatives of TRT Visited UzSWLU

On October 2, representatives of the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) visited Uzbekistan State World Languages University (UzSWLU).

During the visit, UzSWLU Rector Ilkhomjon Tukhtasinov briefed the guests on the university’s activities, achievements, and ongoing efforts to develop its educational and research potential. He also highlighted the university’s established cooperation with the Embassy of Türkiye in Uzbekistan, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), the Yunus Emre Institute, and a number of leading higher education institutions in Türkiye.

In an interview with TRT representatives, the rector emphasized that cooperation between Uzbekistan and Türkiye in education and science is steadily developing. Student and academic staff exchanges, the study of the Turkish language and culture, translation, intercultural communication, and joint educational projects play an important role in this process.

As noted, Turkish has been taught at UzSWLU as a second foreign language since 1992. In 2023, the Faculty of Translation and Oriental Languages also introduced Turkish as a first foreign language. Currently, more than 400 students study Turkish as their primary language, while over 200 study it as a second language. The teaching process involves 12 local instructors and two native speakers invited from Türkiye.

The interview also highlighted projects implemented by the university in cooperation with TİKA and other partner organizations. In particular, in 2025, students of the Faculty of Translation participated in a 21-day educational programme entitled “Summer School,” organized by the Yunus Emre Institute in Ankara. The discussion also covered an April 2026 visit by Turkish language teachers and students to the Anatolian region of Türkiye as part of the “In the Footsteps of Ancient Words” project, as well as initiatives aimed at exploring the history and culture of the two nations.

It was also announced that the “Turkish Language and Translation Centre” was established at the Faculty of Translation in September 2026 with the support of TİKA. The centre is equipped with modern teaching and methodological materials, furniture, and technical equipment. It aims to enhance students’ knowledge and skills in Turkish, particularly their practical translation competencies. As a logical continuation of the project, the establishment of a “Simultaneous Interpretation Laboratory” at the faculty is planned for 2027.

During the visit, TRT representatives observed classes attended by students learning Turkish and interacted with them.

At the conclusion of the visit, it was emphasized that UzSWLU stands ready to further develop cooperation with Turkish higher education institutions and organizations and strengthen ties in education and science.
