Seminar-Training on “Early Recognition of Signs of Distress in Student Behavior” Held at UzSWLU
On September 28, a seminar-training was held at the Uzbekistan State University of World Languages aimed at enhancing tutors’ social and psychological engagement, identifying signs of anxiety and emotional distress among students at an early stage, and developing their skills in providing psychological and pedagogical support. The seminar was organized jointly by university psychologist Z. Khayrullayeva and deputy deans of the Faculty of English Language No. 1 and the Faculty of English Language No. 2, N. Lapasov and Z. Khasanov.
During the seminar-training, participants were provided with information about observable behavioral signs of conditions such as anxiety, emotional distress, social withdrawal, mood instability, decreased academic motivation, reduced communication activity, and difficulties with attention and concentration.
During the practical sessions, tutors received recommendations on observing changes in students’ usual behavior, identifying psychological risk factors in a timely manner, practicing active listening, establishing empathetic communication, applying an individualized approach, and referring students to the university’s psychological support service when necessary.
The training also explained the practical meaning of such concepts as “observation skills,” “empathetic listening,” “psychological support,” “social adaptation,” “assessment of emotional state,” “psychological prevention,” and “early psychological identification.”
Particular emphasis was placed on the role of tutors in creating a psychologically safe and trusting environment through their daily communication with students.
