The National Forum under the British Council’s PRESETT Programme Has Commenced
Today, on January 6, 2026, a national forum entitled “National Forum on the Modernisation of English Language Education” commenced in Tashkent within the framework of the British Council’s PRESETT programme. The event aims to modernise English language education in Uzbekistan, with a particular focus on the system of training future English language teachers.
The forum is organised by the British Council in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Preschool and School Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan. More than 220 experts from over 50 public and private higher education institutions across the country that prepare future English language teachers are taking part in the forum.

The Rector of Uzbekistan State World Languages University, Ilkhomjon Tukhtasinov, also participated in the forum, highlighting the importance of improving teacher education programmes based on modern approaches, as well as developing reflective practice, inclusive education, and digital competencies in the preparation of future English language teachers.
Another key objective of the forum is to strengthen the network of PRESETT professionals operating in Uzbekistan, facilitate the exchange of experience and expertise among them, and promote professional collaboration.
Within the framework of the forum, priority areas for the modernisation of the PRESETT system, existing challenges, and possible solutions are being discussed. In addition, training sessions aimed at enhancing reflective practice, inclusive education, and strengthening the PRESETT community of practice are being conducted.

The national forum will continue until January 8. As part of the event, the launch of a CPD Hub aimed at supporting teachers’ continuous professional development is planned. It is worth noting that the main academic partner of the PRESETT programme is the Norwich Institute for Language Education (United Kingdom).
