Visit of the U.S. Embassy Representatives to the Department of English Language Teaching Methodology and Educational Technologies, Faculty of English Philology, UzSWLU
During the visit of the representatives from the U.S. Embassy to the Department of English Language Teaching Methodology and Educational Technologies at the Faculty of English Philology, Uzbekistan State World Languages University (UzSWLU), the principles of the conference titled “Actual Problems of Modern Linguistics, Literature, and Teaching Methodology” were discussed in depth.
On April 11, 2025, the Department of English Language Teaching Methodology and Educational Technologies, Faculty of Philology, organized a scientific-practical workshop on the topic “Teaching Integrated Skills and Developing Critical Thinking.” The event aimed to explore modern approaches to English language teaching, to develop students’ language skills in a systematic and consistent way, and to introduce effective methods for fostering critical thinking. The workshop gathered numerous professors, teachers, graduate students, and talented undergraduates who actively participated in the sessions. As a special guest, Kevin McCaughey, Regional English Language Officer (RELO) from the U.S. Embassy, took part in the workshop. Drawing upon his extensive experience, he presented innovative approaches, interactive methods, activity-based learning techniques, and strategies to enhance student engagement in language teaching. He also emphasized the importance of fostering learners’ independent and critical thinking through well-designed tasks and practical activities. Throughout the workshop, participants exchanged experiences and actively discussed the advantages of teaching integrated language skills as listening, reading, writing, and speaking simultaneously. They also explored the impact of this approach on increasing the effectiveness of the teaching process.
At the end of the event, a Q&A session was held, where participants had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in direct dialogue with experts. Furthermore, newly introduced teaching methods were tested through practical activities, demonstrating how they could be implemented in real classroom settings. The workshop was conducted in an interactive format, leaving a lasting impression on participants through practical sessions, group work, and discussions.
This workshop holds great scientific and practical significance for the Faculty of Philology, marking a key step toward improving teaching quality, enhancing instructors’ pedagogical skills, and deepening students’ knowledge in English language learning.
