On February 12, 2024, the head of the department and employees working with international rankings of Uzbekistan State University of Foreign Languages visited the National University of Uzbekistan. The purpose of the visit was to improve skills and exchange experience in the field of international ratings.
During the meeting, the head of the department for working with international ratings at NUU, Gulasal Rofieva, shared the university’s experience of working with the rating agencies QS and Times Higher Education. She spoke about the methodology for calculating rankings, factors influencing a university’s position in the ranking, as well as strategies for improving positions.
In addition, G. Rofieva gave a lot of advice on working with ratings, including:
• Conducting self-analysis: It is important to conduct a thorough analysis of the university's strengths and weaknesses to identify areas that require improvement.
• Strategy development: it is necessary to develop a long-term strategy to improve the university's position in the rankings.
• Data collection: It is necessary to collect data required for submission of application to rating agencies in a timely and correct manner.
• Marketing: It is important to promote the achievements of the university in order to increase its recognition at the international level.
During the meeting, Gulasal Rofieva provided additional information, which is designed to optimize work with QS and Times Higher Education ratings. An important aspect was highlighted regarding publications in scientific journals, especially those affecting international rankings.
It was noted that for effective promotion in the QS ranking it is necessary to publish at least 100 articles annually, and for successful entry into the Times Higher Education ranking 150 articles in journals indexed in the Scopus database. This indicates the high academic contribution of the university to world science and research.
UzSWLU staff asked G. Rofieva many questions regarding working with ratings. She gladly answered all questions and gave valuable advice.
As a result of visiting NUU, UzSWLU employees received valuable information about working with international rankings. They also had the opportunity to exchange experiences with colleagues from a leading university in Uzbekistan.
