Cooperation on International Rankings Discussed in Azerbaijan

Currently, Uzbekistan State World Languages University actively participates in international ranking systems, implementing a strategy aimed at consistently improving the quality of education, scientific potential, and indicators of international cooperation. Strengthening the university’s position in the global academic arena, introducing institutional approaches aligned with ranking methodologies, and studying best international practices are among the key priorities in this area.

Within the framework of these objectives, a series of meetings dedicated to cooperation in the field of international rankings were held during the visit of Bekzod Nishanaliyev, Head of the Department for International Rankings at Uzbekistan State World Languages University, to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During the meetings, partner institutions were informed about the achievements of Uzbekistan State World Languages University in international rankings. In particular, it was emphasized that the university was ranked in the 251–300 range in the QS World University Rankings by Subject (Linguistics), placed among the Top 500 universities worldwide in the UI GreenMetric ranking, and recognized among the Top 30 leading universities in the “Quality Education” (SDG 4) category of the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.

During the visit, close familiarization took place with the international ranking results of Azerbaijan University of Languages and Baku Slavic University, their experience in operating in accordance with ranking methodologies, and the activities of the units responsible for these processes. Professional and practical discussions were also held with representatives of the departments responsible for international rankings at these universities.

The discussions focused in detail on strengthening scientific cooperation, increasing the number of joint scientific publications and research projects, expanding academic ties, and establishing and developing visiting professor programs. The parties emphasized that these areas are key factors in improving universities’ performance in international rankings.

As a result of the negotiations, specific agreements were reached on exchanging experience in international rankings, improving mechanisms for analyzing ranking indicators, and implementing joint initiatives aimed at developing academic and scientific cooperation in line with ranking methodologies.

Overall, the visit served as a practical manifestation of the strategic goals of Uzbekistan State World Languages University to strengthen its position in international rankings, enhance its academic and scientific potential, and develop international cooperation on a systematic and results-oriented basis.
