On January 27 of the current year, Azizova Nafruza Esanboyevna, a lecturer at the Department of English Translation Theory of the Faculty of Translation Studies at Uzbekistan State World Languages University and Doctor of Philosophy in Philology (PhD), conducted an online master class on the topic “Translation and Culture” for students of the Halima Khudoyberdiyeva Creative School in Gulistan.
The main objective of the session was to develop students’ theoretical knowledge and practical skills regarding the close relationship between translation and culture, particularly the challenges of translating cultural units and idioms.
During the lesson, the history of translation, well-known English idioms, and their cultural backgrounds were explained through illustrative examples. The theoretical materials were presented using slides and video resources.
In the practical part of the session, students actively completed exercises on translating idioms and metaphors, identifying semantic equivalents, and selecting context-appropriate translation options.
In conclusion, the online master class on “Translation and Culture” fully achieved its intended goals, increased students’ interest in the field of translation, and further expanded their knowledge of language and translation studies
